The FOMO is real!

My office has celebrations multiple times a month for many reasons and for no reasons. Today was a Cinco de Mayo taco celebration, for example. But Mardi Gras, Black history month, national waffle day, everything. And nothing! Random ice cream socials and grilled cheese days. For me, I sometimes feel like if I don't partake, I'm going to be missing out on something. Like I always have this thought of feeling like "if I don't go in there and get something, it'll be too late". Logically, I know that missing out wouldn't effect my life at all, but there's something intrinsic that worries me about not participating in these social gatherings (not that there's anything wrong with going to social gatherings, so don't preach to me!). Does anyone else have this feeling? It's so hard to explain

It is o.k. not to partake. Focus on the things you have to do for yourself and not the random food events.
Continue to do what is best for you and eat meaningfully -- when you want and what you want. :)
If waffles fit into your calorie bank for the day, then enjoy because eating them is your choice and not simply because they are "there."

I think you can participate without eating, or not eat everything, or bring your own food.

Are these parties at work or out somewhere else? If you want to participate and your boss will let you, could you volunteer to help set things up? That way you feel like you are part of it. Plus the person who usually ends up doing setup/tear down will get a bit of a break. If you are busy doing something you will feel less like you need to be eating something.

or you could set aside a few hundred calories from your calorie bank for these parties, so you can have a piece of cake or icecream or tacos or whatever it is

@celestestar I'd already planned for the tacos, they'd been worked into my meal for the day. It was that damn trifle...
