Using two Garmin watches to track steps

I am thinking about getting a Garmin Vivosmart HR to track my HR throughout the day; I'm just curious to see how it reacts to training, sleep quality etc.

The problem is I already have a Garmin 230, which I wear day to day and, crucially, use to track my runs (with chest HR).

If I want to track my steps primarily with my Vivosmart and I go for a run with my forerunner (only) will my total steps be taken from my forerunner+vivosmart?

Does anyone have tips on this? Would I be better getting a forerunner 235 and just sticking with the same watch all the time?

I can't speculate as to using the two watches together as I haven't. However, I have a Forerunner 235 and love it. I would get annoyed constantly switching watches personally.

If both watches count steps, Garmin has software to make it right, basically it'll add them together. If the 230 is old enough it may not work.

The day I upgraded from my Fenix 3 to 5X I wore the F3 all day until it arrived, and after I synced the new watch, the steps just moved over. The 5X showed the right number, ones counted by a different device.
