Smaller appetite almost instantly?

Before I started counting calories and going to the gym, I was always hungry, even when I woke up. I've only been doing this for about 2 weeks, but my appetite has already changed. I don't wake up hungry and can go hours before eating, and when I do eat, I get full way quicker. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes--I'm not sure if it's the mindset or changing how I was eating, but it happened to me when I started.

My appetite comes and goes, so just because it does that doesn't mean it's never an issue again.

It happens to many people when they start especially because most people make better food choices when they first start. As you lose weight your appetite may change depending on how active you are and how much body fat you have.

For my first three weeks on a 700-calorie deficit, I felt like I was starving much of the time. (Technically, I was, but very slowly!) I'm an endurance athlete (long-distance cycling), though a slow one, and I was averaging 500 calories/day of moderate to intense aerobic exercise; my body was used to being refueled regularly.

After three weeks, that changed. The hunger became far less intense and easy to ignore. My surmise is that the combination of a serious deficit and continued aerobic exercise helped train my body to draw more effectively on stored body fat. I continue to be able to wake up and work for a few hours on nothing more than a cup of coffee, though usually a slice of toast with butter (150 cal. total) tides me over to lunch. I eat 50% or more of my calories between 6:30 and 10 pm.

Enjoy the diet honeymoon phase while it lasts, but be prepared to avoid being taken by surprise if it returns. When people are new to dieting, a combination of food choices and strong motivation may affect some people's appetite. It often returns to some degree or even stronger than before for some.
