I never knew I ate SO many calories before today. I've been in denial for years about my need to lose weight. My doctor brought up my BMI to me (26/27) and the fact that I've been overweight for 10 years now. I rationalized my weight away during this time. I am a sugar and fat addict, and before I logged my calories today, I honestly thought I was eating healthy and healthy portions. I found out today that I've been eating for three lately (about 3,500kcal/day!!!) due to stress and that everything I've been eating has 3x the fat it should have. Day 1 here we go! So far so good. Let's see how this looks 5 months from now.

Current wt:169lbs
GW:135lbs
Height: 5'7

Logging is definitely an eye-opening experience! Congratulations for taking the first step.

    Congratulations!

BTW Fat is not bad for you. Really it's not. There are healthy fats and they help to keep you full. (For example I am on 1200 to 1400 calories and I am never really that hungry and I am eating all of the time).

    See this website: http://www.eatthis.com/healthy-fats

Also, have you heard about the keto / paleo way of eating? It turns everything you have been told about dieting on its head! I encourage you to look at food differently by thinking about high protein/fat/fiber and low carbs/sugar meal planning (Paleo or Ketogenic).

See this website for a list: http://paleoiq.com/best-paleo-diet-blogs/

Don't swing too far in the other direction. 3500 calories is not eating for three, unless the three people are short, elderly women with little muscle mass and less activity. So don't think that you a (a 5'7" woman who is slightly overweight) need to cut back below 1200 calories (3500/3 = 1167 calories).

And, as Sunna_W said, fat is not bad for you. Fat does not make you fact. Excess calories make you fat.
