Any beginner strength training exercises to help me lose weight? I've been stuck at same weight for a while.

Strength training doesn't actually burn that many calories, but it will help you hold onto/strengthen muscle.

I started working out with fitness tubes. I'd never heard of them before, but I walked into a fitness supply store and told them I wanted to start strength training. They recommended either dumbbells or the tubes. And what it came down to was that I'd walked 35 minutes to get to that store and I wasn't sure about walking home with however many pounds of dumbbells in a shopping bag dangling from my hand/wrist/arm. There are some good exercises on the Theragear site (same link as above) and in this YouTube:

Since then, I've purchased a book on strength training (and there are many good ones. It just so happened that the bookstore I was at had three options and I liked the pretty pictures in this one, as well as the variety of exercises for each muscle group) and am experimenting, trying to find which exercises work best for me.

    I've since purchased
    • An exercise mat
    • A stability ball
    • Dumbbells (I went back with a grocery cart)
    • Fitness bands
    • A Nerf soccer ball (some of the warmup exercises require one)

Eventually, I'll probably get a step platform, too.

FWIW, all of these items came to a combined total of about $150 CDN and I didn't shop around for the best possible prices.

    Good luck!

Search the forum for "weight loss flow chart" for the most common reasons for a plateau. :+1:

I love the Sworkit app. I've been using it for a while now off and on. It uses your bodyweight, so mo equipment required.
