3lbs in 3 Days - Should I Be Concerned

After my initial water weight loss, my weight loss has been a fairly steady 1-2lbs/week. I was happy with that. However, when I stepped on the scale Saturday, I saw I had lost a pound, which was fine. Then it happened on Sunday, and again today. I've gone from 244 to 241 in three days. The weirdest thing is that it's my TOM, and I never lose during that, but I am now. Should I be concerned or am I jumping the gun? I know it's only 3 days so far, but that just seemed unusual.

I'm 5'4" and my calorie goal is 1240, which I typically stay around. I don't usually eat back exercise calories because I'm only just now able to exercise much (lot of health issues), but I plan to start eating back around 50%. I started out at 265 (well 267 actually, but 265 when I started recording). I do weigh foods when I can, but I'm on the road a lot, so I eat from restaurants more than I would like.

    I wouldn't worry. Weight loss isn't linear.

I wouldn't worry but don't be surprised if you don't lose for awhile or the scale creeps back up a little. Normal fluctuations! Congrats on your loss!

Just keep doing what you're doing. No need to worry. Just water whooshing.

If you are going to weigh yourself more than once a week I recommend a weight trend app like happyscale or Libra. Weight loss isn't linear so this helps to take the anxiety out of the episodic fluctuations. So many variables can cause the scale to shift (TOM, DOMS, sodium, alcohol, more carbs than usual, etc). You are also at a very low calorie goal and a higher weight which can cause you to lose quicker than others, but don't expect this to be a constant.

Thank you. I was mildly concerned because I have issues with my thyroid. I'm on synthroid for hypothyroidism, but twice in the past my thyroid decided to radically go the other way. It's always hypo or hyper instead of normal, so I was worried it might be happening again.

I'm happy to be losing the weight though. I'm hoping to hit 199 by New Years.

If I were you, I would wait a week to see where you're at. If you continue dropping quickly then it could be due to a number of things - could be the hyperthyroidism, but could also be due to increased daily activity levels. Give it some time to see if it evens out!
