Hi, I skimmed through Dr. Mike Dow's book - "The Brain Fog Fix". He is an author, psychotherapist and does some tv shows. He writes about dopamine, cortisol and serotonin. He advises no flour, sodium or sugar for a healthy brain and body. He has two other books out - "Diet Rehab-28 Days to Finally Stop" and "Craving the Foods that Make You Fat" (I haven't seen these books.) Was wondering if anyone follows his ideas and their thoughts? Thank you!

Personally, I need to lose about 140 pounds. I have Type 2 Diabetes, Thyroid issues, high blood pressure - all controlled with meds. But because my knees are bone-on-bone plus my size, it is getting very hard to move and work. I am sure my body is very inflammed (sp?). So I would think that doing without the above items, should help me lose weight but more importantly get my walking and moving around easier.0

I will say that when I was able to stick to keto for about a year, I experienced some wonderful "side effects" that included better mental clarity, more alertness and energy and better sleep.
The health benefits of an extremely low-carb diet are documented. But it can be VERY hard to stick to. I'm a carb-lover, and I decided that even with the health benefits, I wasn't prepared to follow the keto diet for the rest of my life. So I do enjoy some carbs in my diet now.0 -
Is that the same guy who was dragged off the united flight?3

It sounds like you need knee surgery as well.0 -

moving more and eating less will help you with the weight loss. if you are diabetic you can look into a keto diet, but it may not be needed.any diet with a deficit will work for weight loss. if you want ask to see a registered Dietitian who deals with these issues and they can help you with a diet plan. those foods you mentioned above do not make you fat, overeating makes you fat(it works that way for all of us).0 -
I never trust any book where the author's title is "Dr. Name" or "Name, M.D." or "Name, Ph.D." It's a rule of thumb that has served me well.2

As a psychotherapist, Dr. Dow has little to no training in dopamine, cortisol and serotonin.
Buy a kitchen scale for about 15-25 dollars at Target or Walmart. Weigh your food.
Log your daily calories in MyFitnessPal.
Eat enough protein and fats.

Take care of your knees by seeing a physical therapist. Perhaps you can do workouts in a swimming pool.7 -
No sodium? Hm, you could die that way, did you know that?6

you need to:
plug in your stats to MFP
eat to that number
get a food scale and weigh out your portions..
log everything accurately and consistently
use correct MFP database entries
and realize that no foods are "bad" there are just bad diets....4 -
No fruits or vegetables at all? (Sugars.)
No meat, poultry or fish? (Sodium.)
Obviously, no dairy (lactose, and even if the lactose is removed, sodium).
What on earth can you eat? Ice cubes?
Not being a jerk here. I wish there were one simple fix for something so vague yet troublesome (brain fog). If you suspect a food intolerance you need to go on a standard elimination diet with foods individually reintroduced. Ask your doctor.3 -
