Progressive Resistance Training

I saw that someone had recommended Progressive Resistance Training to another member. Since I didn't have any idea what it meant, I googled it and found this: http://www.exrx.net/Questions/BasicProgram.html

It seems like a good, common sense plan to me. What do all of you think who are into this kind of workout? I currently ride 7-8 miles per day (in 30 minutes) on my stationary bike but am wanting to strengthen all of my muscles. Do you think I would still want to ride the bike 7 days a week or would I substitute some of the days with Progressive Resistance Training?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I think resistance training is very important for a fitness program. There are many benefits aside from building strength that can come as a result of resistance training.

If you are doing the exercises in the abbreviated program, the you can still do the stationary bike workout as well. Maybe do a 5-10 minute warmup on the bike, then do the resistance training exercises, and then your normal stationary bike workout afterwards.

And if the exercises get a little too easy for you, let us know so we can offer some suggestions on how to increase the resistance to help your progression.

Thank you Chris for the good advice. I will try warming up on the bike, doing the resistance exercises and then finishing on the bike for my regular workout.
