Hey does anyone have the garmin connect? And if so do you have issues with your steps calculating to calories burned. I have 13000 steps and only have 8 calories burned today. Some days the same amount of steps equals about 300 calories. I don't get why it's different all the time and I'm sure that 13000 steps is way more than 8 calories.

Today I have 5,709 steps amounting to 269 active calories. That's perhaps slightly high but within reason considering hills and stairs.0

My garmin ap says I have 457 active calories but mfp only says 80

My Garmin Forerunner 225 is OK at calculating Activity calories for a run (tracked by pressing go on the watch.)
But I've found it to be absolute rubbish at giving any calories for just steps walked.

Are you both talking about the calories burned according to Garmin, or what's been sent/added to MFP?
I'm currently experimenting with having my MFP activity level set to "very active", which is the highest setting meant for over 12500 steps a day. MFP gives me 500 extra calories. But no matter how much running or steps I do, the negative calorie adjustments take nearly all my exercise calories back.
Two weeks ago, I did a 50 km walk (64,000 steps) and I only earned an extra 1000 calories in MFP on top of the 500 I get every day for being "very active" and doing 12,500 steps!

I confess that I don't track the actual interactions between Garmin and MFP, just the end result of losing weight with a calorie deficit, which shows that using Garmin as my activity tracker to feed my data to MFP appears to be working for me appropriately and I'm happy with the ongoing results so far.
I have MFP set to "Sedentary: Spend most of the day sitting (e.g. bank teller, desk job)" along with "Enable Negative Adjustments" activated, and am letting Garmin do the heavy lifting for steps and activities (currently doing three sessions a week of Jeff Galloway's Run-Walk-Run training).
I would expect that having MFP set to higher "diet/fitness profile" settings above "Sedentary" would impact the calorie adjustments and discrepancy between the two sites, Garmin and MFP. As to "why it's different all the time", I don't have any suggestions.
Looking forward to learning more about the interactions between the two.2 -
Mine seems spot on. What watch do you have and what activity level are you set to in MFP?1

I'm talking about the interaction between garmin and mfp. When syncing i had over 10000 steps and 300 or so calories burned in garmin but when it syncs over to mfp it only comes out to 8 calories.0 -

Multiplier for running is 0.60 -
As others have said. if you have MFP set to active or very active, you won't get credit for steps below 10K or 12.5K. In other words, it's working exactly as designed.2

Are you also logging in a run or walking exercise? If so, Garmin will discount your steps that occurred at the time of that exercise to avoid double counting.0 -
I have a Vivofit 2 and it's very accurate, i actually think that it underestimates my calories burned sometimes especially when i walk 20,000 steps. But it does a good job showing the difference of calories burned based on the intensity/quality of my physical activity. I have my activity class Garmin Connect set to zero and I did not sync the app to MFP. I prefer to keep the information separate and do the deficit math in my head. MFP activity is set to lightly active.1

I use weight(lbs) * km * .39 for running. But I think in pounds and kilometers.
I guess it would be weight (kg) * km * .86
For me, this gives ~ 470 cals for a 5 k run. Garming gave me 507 for my last one.0 -

The multiplier for running is 0.63. This gives the NET calories burned, which is what you would be interested in for logging exercise calories.
