Body fat scale question

I weigh-in with my trainer using the fancy body fat scale ast the gym (the kind that has handles). Between Day 1, Month 1, and Month 2 my weight only went down by a few pounds overall, but the scale showed a shift toward less fat and more muscle at both weigh-ins.
I've read that while body fat scales aren't precise, they are mostly useful for seeing trends like that, so I'm not too discouraged. During that time I did considerably more resistance training, and also did not consistently track my food accurately.
I'm wondering at what point should that shift translate to weight loss, if at all? It may be a moot point, because I've been more conscientious about tracking and doing more cardio since then, but I'm curious if there's a sort of tipping point.
