I have a heck of a time with push-ups because I broke my left wrist and my right hand, which make this activity very painful. Can I get similar results by doing push-ups against the wall or counter? What would you guys recommend?

Is there a reason you have to do pushups?
dumbbell/kettlebell bench/floor presses can yield similar results.
using pushup stands or fists can reduce the stress on the wrist/ hand for variety.1 -
Pushup stands are the way to go. I have a broken right wrist from mountain biking that never healed correctly, so I feel your pain.

I have arthritis in my wrists. Putting my hands palm down really hurts, so I just grab dumbbells. (Keeping my wrists and hands along the same line as I do the push-ups, if that makes sense to you.)2
