Sedentary or lightly active

I have both my fitbit and mfp set for sedentary. I make an effort to get AT LEAST 8k steps 5 days a week. Consistently losing 1.5 lbs a week as set by mfp. Been at this for over 3 months
Today I did 13k steps (kid sport night) so gained 800 in "exercise". Is it time to switch to lightly active or one of those "don't fix what isn't broken" Things?

Switch to lightly active for something you did today? Your activity level is your lifestyle in general. I wouldn't change it.

And even if you do switch, the total calories (base plus adjustment) will be about the same, just in different quantities on each side.

No. I aim for 8k and usually end the day between 10k and 12k because I make the effort to get the 8k before 11am.

Are you losing at the rate you wish? I'd wait a week before changing and see.

Also, are you sedentary and then logging that walking as exercise? I set mine for lightly active with 12k steps, but that is included in activity level.

Yes I am losing at a rate I am happy with. Just seeing such a high amount of extra calories for such little effort is concerning. In case I wanted to eat them I want to make sure it's safe to do so.

I am not logging the walking as exercise. It's just my adjustment and I have negative turned on so I at least need to have 3k steps before I start to see any positive adjustment

Ah, okay. I don't know how those adjustments work. I just know that my 10-12k steps falls into the light active category, so there are no "extra calories" to be eaten.

If you are averaging 8k steps a day, you are lightly active. I'm sure your calories are being increased every day, mine is for half that stepping.

Just set MFP to Enable Negative Adjustments under Diary Settings, so FitBit can reduce your calories on days you are very sedentary.

That's what I figured. I will just leave it alone. I don't even touch those exercise calories. I just aim for the 1500 calories.

Still trying to figure this out. My steps are just from daily errands. Groceries, shopping etc. Definitely no fat burning calories. Its a snails pace. So I guess even though I can end my day around 10k steps its not "Active" enough to push it to lightly active?

I would just leave it unless you find yourself losing more quickly than planned.

I'd leave it. I have mine set to sedentary, and exercise calories get added back in separately. It's worked well for me.

Walking slowly still burns calories, you know...
