Meals from Home Challenge

I am the worst at eating out, but I am slowly learning to eat meals from my kitchen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I've eliminated the excuse of not grocery shopping by starting grocery delivery services like Prime Now and Instacart (the delivery fee for Instacart is less than what I pay for a meal out. Plus the cost savings from making meals vs eating out is crazy. Not to mention the time savings and convenience factor of having my groceries delivered. Plus I can buy exactly what I need or intend to without having any last minute impulse (junk) food buys).

I've eliminated the excuse of "needing to get out of the office" by going out with my co-workers and bringing my bagged lunch with me. Other times I'll eat my lunch at the office, but go for a walk or run errands if I feel like I need to get away.

I've eliminated the excuse of "not enough time" by planning ahead, preparing simple meals, and making them in bulk. I keep fruit on hand and opt for quick, easy meals like cereal for breakfast, sandwiches and salads for lunch, and I plan a couple of large, easy meals for dinner, then eat the leftovers the next couple of nights.

I make meals I know I like and find healthier, easier versions of my favorite restaurant foods. Plus I keep frozen meals on hand for moments of weakness where everything sucks and the last thing in the world I want to do is make dinner.

Plus I just generally opt for meals that require 10 minutes or less to prep/pack or cook, with easy to minimal clean up.

I feel like I've set myself up for success by identifying the behaviors that make me want to eat out and by implementing small, little changes to accommodate/support the habits I want to maintain.

I really want to keep this momentum going by challenging myself to go 30 days making/bringing all meals from home.

If anyone wants to join me we can use this thread to posts successes and other insights, post meals (like, recipes or pics), tips and tricks, and motivate each other to keep going.

Who's with me? :)

*P.S. I travel for work on occasion, so my one caveat to this plan is if I'm out of town for work I'll eat breakfast at the hotel, plan on buying healthy snacks between meals, and make good food choices if I do have to eat out. :)

I also have a couple of happy hours planned over the next few weeks as well, but I'll plan on eating at home before hand and just grab a drink or two while I'm out :)
