How do I stop...

... calorie counting? I lost 40 lbs last year and just hit 6 months in maintenance. I now would like to transition from calorie counting to mindful eating. I plan to keep myself on track by:
1. Weighing/measuring myself regularly like I do presently
2. Starting off this strategy with the same foods that I eat regularly
3. Meal prep as I normally do

I have tried unsuccessfully to break from the counting calories habit before... but I always find myself anxious at the end of a meal - wanting to track my calories ASAP like I normally do. I usually end up giving in and tracking calories just to get the stress of it to go away. I don't want this type of relationship with food. I see others in this forum mention how they don't track all their food - portion control and mindfulness go a long way... but how do I get myself to that mental state? TIA.

I tracked my main meals to make sure I hit my protein goal and then mentally tracked approximate snack calories. I will always follow some sort of mental calorie tracking because mindful eating is more stressful to me.

I lost 40 lbs on Weight Watcher. I kept tracking and counting points for 5 years before I could go sustained periods without tracking. But I kept going to meetings and weighing in. Twice I went over my goal weight and went back to counting and tracking.

I've been at my goal weight for 10+ years. I still weigh or measure my portions at home most of the time.

I decided a long time ago that if I do what most people do, I'll gain it back. It's just all habit now. If it ain't broke...
