My weight gain started when I went to college and wasn't anywhere near as active (and not growing anymore), but still eating the same. It wasn't sugar or carbs that made me gain weight, it was that my CO changed and the CI didn't.

    Any nutrition "expert" who starts spewing the "carbz/sugarz iz da debilz" garbage immediately loses all credibility with me. Science clearly shows otherwise and my own personal experience throughout my life does as well. Carbs don't make you fat, eating too much makes you fat. CICO is an irrefutable truth, no matter what you're eating.

    Oh, and I can still crush a box of Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter Crunch cereal once in a while! :D

    In elementary school the bus also got to school 30 mins early and we played outside, there were 2 25 min recesses and 40 mins of recess after lunch.
    Jr high you had 55 mins of gym where it was always a high activity level plus sports practice after school.
    HS, still 55 mins of gym and sports after school.
    Some evenings and most weekends were spent (other than working on the farm) swimming, waterskiing, snow skiing, cliff diving, hunting and fishing.

    just going to jump on the 'breakfast didn't make me fat' bandwagon. even though as a kid i ate cocoa pebbles every morning at dad's house and scrambled eggs with cream cheese and toast if i was at mom's. in high school i switched to liquid breakfast because waking up early is hell and eating half asleep makes me nauseous. so at mom's it was cafe con leche and at dad's he would make me carnation instant breakfast.

    the article seemed a little bottom feedery to me. quoting Taubes is a sure fire way to lose my interest as well.
    i wrote this whole post because it gave me a nostalgia stiffy for carnation instant breakfast

    That portion size is around 130 calories. Are your full meals 130 calories? I'm gonna guess no, just eat more of it or eat something else width it like some eggs

    2 oz of Captain Crunch with a cup of milk is 422 calories. My face-sized omelet with two pieces of toast was 377. I don't want to imagine how many calories it would take to fill me up on Crunchberries. :D

    Well, 2 oz is already 2 servings. 30 grams of cereal is 1 serving. With 200 ml of low fat milk that is just above 200 calories. 10 grams of protein. Not great but not horrible.

    I have never been overweight.

    As a child I would usually eat a high quality muesli with milk.

    As an adult, I have pretty much just had microwaved oatmeal cooked in almond milk! Currently I top it with half a banana, a tsp of LSA, 15g peanut butter, cinnamon, and a few squares of dark chocolate :smile: It's tasty, luxurious, and so filling that I could easily go until dinner if I wanted to!

    I totally don't eat cereals, but if you're trying to be evenly fed all day, breakfast is important.

    I never used to eat it but now I have to force it because I'm on bulk. Fruits. Fiber. Vitamins. Natural.

    I had oatmeal once last month..until I read the label and saw how processed it was. I have trouble getting carbs goals because of my natural inclination to proteins and fibers. Added sugar can stay home- except honey added by me

    Why don't you just buy plain rolled oats if you don't like the additives? :)

    diabetes is one instance I can think of

    I've never heard that phrase used before so it struck me as a bit odd, but yeah it would make sense that some medical conditions would need a more structured eating schedule.

    To each their own I guess.
    When I'm bulking I go all out. I always have to lower my fibre or I'm too full and bloated..bleckk. If I'm going to eat cereal, high sugar cereals like Cocoa Krispies were always my choice. Quick carbs are a great preworkout too ;)

    French kids often have bread with jam or nutella for breakfast. Some kids in Denmark (I think?) have chocolate on toast for breakfast. How is that better than sugary cereal?

    Really, it has more to do with the fact that people are too busy in the morning to make a more balanced breakfast. Speaking for myself too, I often have a hard time with savory food at breakfast, and just egg/bacon would leave me unsatisfied (I need the carbs).
