Is it possible to lose weight just by removing soda from my diet and replacing it with water?

So each week I probably have around 5 2litre bottles of soda. Each bottle contains around 800 calories which means that each week I am drinking around 4000 calories just from soda. I haven't had soda in around 5 days now and the cravings are horrible but I know I need to do it or I will always be hooked. I currently weigh 185 pounds and I would like to be 150 pounds. Will I see a big change in weight or will it be a slow process. My diet will remain the same and I will stop snacking also which will possible be a further 1000 calories less a week

If that's enough to put you in a calorie deficit, yes

Hard to predict. Are you replacing those soda calories with food, due to the cravings? Are you logging your food and staying in a calorie deficit?

Great job cutting the soda, though!

Generally 3,500 calories for a pound of weight loss. So yes you should see some change.

Yes. Definitely! I quit soda and went to water almost two months ago and lost 24 pounds in that time (I was 300+ pounds). I calculated that I was drinking about 1,000 calories of soda per day so it easy to see what largely happened.

Just keep it up! You will probably hit some caffeine withdrawal depending on what you used to drink (I got massive headaches about 3-4 days in) but just power through it. It will get better and in a few weeks you'll be glad you did this I promise you. :)

IF you were maintaining before, then that means you were (including the soda) taking in enough calories to balance what your body uses on average. So in that case, cutting out the soda and keeping all other calories in/out as it was before would allow you to lose weight gradually.

But if your weight was not static, and you had been still gaining - then cutting out the soda might not be enough.

Like people said... it depends on if you were maintaining on gaining before. That's assuming also that you're not eating more of other things to make up for it, as someone mentioned (which you might not even notice).

I was drinking 2 or 3 cans of Pepsi a day and started losing faster when I switched to Pepsi max. It really helped my weightloss because I didn't have sugar cravings anymore either so I've cut out about 500 calories a day. It will only help your weightloss if it helps you achieve a calorie deficit.

You should lose a lb per week for a while at least, as long as you dont eat any differently besides that. :) Good luck!

If you were maintaining you weight before, probably. If you were gaining weight before, you may just hit maintenance. How much you lose will depend on how many calories you are still consuming.
