Hello all,

This is my first time posting. I have made the decision to lose all the weight I have put on! Every year I am heavier than the year before. I have developed a huge stomach that I never had!

Eating clean has always been the hard part of dieting for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? I love all vegetables, but don't eat much fruit. I love to cook and can follow most recipes.

Thanks all,

NM

Don't eat "clean" if you don't like it. It is not necessary for weight loss.

I lost over 50 pounds just be logging every bit of food and drink on here and sticking to what this site recommended my daily calorie intake should be. It took about 6-7 months.

The website DashingDish.com has a lot of clean eating recipes. Some you have to pay for, but it's only $7/month. The zucchini lasagna recipe was worth that alone.

Agree with above from @elphie754 and @CaliMomTeach, it is not necessary to eat "clean", whatever interpretation of that you have, to lose weight. You just need to eat less, move more or a combination of the two to maintain a calorie deficit.
    • Complete your MFP profile honestly and accurately
    • Set yourself a sustainable weight loss rate (faster isn't necessarily better - slow and steady wins the races)
    • Log your normal intake for a few days (if you don't have a food scale already, it's one of the best investments you'll make!)
    • Review the days you have logged your normal intake to see where you can make small changes to reduce your intake to your new calorie goal. For some people this can be as simple as swapping out high sugar soft drinks to a diet version/water, for others it can be the amount of oils used in cooking, using low calorie versions of foods they already enjoy or eating smaller portions.
    • Start making those changes gradually.
    • Whilst exercise isn't necessary for weight loss (MFP doesn't account for exercise in your calorie goal) it will make a difference to your overall health and will increase your calorie allowance.
    • Once you have your calorie goal under control you can start to focus on getting a good Macro (Carbs/Fat/Protein) split to improve your nutrition and then your Micros (vitamins, minerals, sugar, salt, etc). Again this isn't necessary for weight loss but will improve your nutrition and help you manage your hunger better.

Eating 'clean' whatever you think it means won't make you lose weight. You need to eat at a caloric deficit.

Gosh I hate this word 'clean' eating...

Hi everyone thanks for all of your feedback. I just meant eat clean as in less processed sugar and bread and more vegetables, and natural foods. But I see the theme everyone is suggesting. Eat less = lose weight.

How do you deal with hunger?? I feel like I'm losing my mind when I'm hungry hahah.

    1. dont set your deficit too high, aim for one pound per week.
    2. eat foods higher in fat and/or protein as they tend to keep you satiated.
    3. drink adequate water as this will make you feel more full.
