Struggle to strength train

Hi all. I haven't been on here in ages and getting back to logging my food. I started working with a nutritionist a while back and realizing I need to log my food daily to be more accountable and getting back in here will hopefully help me. I had an a-ha moment the other day after trying to get back on track with eating, moving, etc after vacation and my birthday.

I was looking back at when I was in better shape and whole I was working out 3-4x a week, I was also doing weights at the same time. I was a member of a cardio kickboxing class and you did both strength training and cardio in each class. The lbs dropped and I wasn't even trying. I didn't even see my weight loss but other people did.

Anyway, I told my nutrionist this and I told her I'll be tracking my food daily and aiming to do more strength training, aiming 3x a week. Cardio is easy, Zumba, walking, elliptical, but I just struggle to remember to do squats, planks, etc.

Anyone else??

I have to take "cardio muscle" or tabata classes to enjoy using weights. Or I pop in a Jillian Michaels 30-min DVD. Someone needs to be telling me what to do, unless it's Pilates which I can do on my own but that's not squatting weights!

I have to make a conscious effort to do this 1-2 times a week and then it becomes a feel-good habit in addition to walking, jogging and cardio classes.

Do you belong to a gym?
    ... I hate gyms I get self-conscious ...

But it's hard to really strength train without weights ... the key is go push to failure to trigger muscle growth ... and most body resistance strength training isn't good for that.

I invested in a home gym because I got a Craigslist steal.

The good news is... 30 minutes is plenty of time if you're doing it right... so it's not like the boring endless treadmill

You don't have to belong to a gym to strength train. I do weights and TRX at home. You CAN strength train using body weight exercises, but you have to know how to progress them to harder exercises. Example, If a push up is too easy, do atomic push ups, feet elevated PU, one arm PU, one arm atomic PU, weighted PU, etc.

I do have a Y membership. I have a hard time tracking stuff I do.

But like @wellnesschaser said, in some ways I need someone to tell me what to do. I also subscribe to Gaia.com and I should look for some strength training/Pilates workouts there to try.

I did take an advanced strength training class yesterday and am so sore I need to foam roll again today. I also am going to plan to go to TRX on Thursday which I've come to like.
