I was wondering how much total liquids do you drink daily. I think i might be drinking too much. When i eat better for sone reason i drink more. I got 2 1.5 liter water bottles i fill daily. So i thought 3 liters daily was good but i never considered my tea and pop which is usually 3 teas and 2-3 cans of pop daily. Now im not that thirsty i just drink way more when i eat right for some reason.

Am i drinking too much. I was told by a friend their mothers kidney dr told her no person needs more then 3 liters of total liquids daily.

Thanks

Yes. You are drinking too much.

"They" say 8 cups or 2 L of water a day is the right amount, but that's counting all the other liquids in the food you eat too. Coffee, tea, watermelon, meat, everything AND that's a pretty big generalization for all the different body sizes.

Drink when you are thirsty or when you are doing heavy exercise. If your pee is really dark, drink something.

If you exercising plus the weather is getting better. It's natural to drink more to keep hydrated. Every person is different, never use that to determine if it's too much. Urinating , sweating etc constantly we losing water.

Drink if you are thirsty. If you are worried talk to your doctor; excessive thirst can be symptom of other issues. It is hard to really drink too much water if you have kidneys that function properly. How much you need to drink will depend on a wide variety of factors.

FWIW, I typically drink 4 to 6 liters of water a day. I also use the bathroom a lot.

In summer i usually drink around 3L of water, this doesn't include the 6 or so cups of tea/coffee i drink throughout the day, I only count plain water as fluids.
It's just about winter here now and i probably average around 1.5L of water a day, my pee is very light coloured, so i think i'm fine.
There have been a few of times where i drank just over 4L, and i got the light headed, dizzy, nauseous feeling each time. Too much water, not enough salt/electrolytes (very unscientific explanation)!

I don't think you're drinking too much. Yes, a person may not *need* more than 3 liters of water a day under normal circumstances (not working out, weather not too warm, etc), that doesn't automatically mean that it's harmful to drink more than that if you want. As @anaxmann mentioned, excessive thirst can be a sign of a medical issue, but you said that you're not thirsty, you just tend to drink a lot of liquid. NBD, if you don't mind the extra trips to the toilet. Hyponatremia is a (very serious, very rare) real thing caused by drinking so much water that you deplete your sodium levels and mess with your electrolytes, but since you're also drinking tea and soda, that's likely not a concern.
If you like drinking lots of liquids, and don't mind lots of urination, and don't have any medical issues, go for it.

Ha yeah... I don't know if i drink too much or if i have a bladder the size of a grape, but i visit the loo every 20-30 minutes, and once or twice over night which i'm thinking is an old age thing lol! My family lives 1 hour away, and i need to have a toilet stop every time i drive down and visit them :weary:
