You plan to do 20 - 30 miles of hill repeats?

Yes that's correct some flats but mostly hills one after another

So not laps up and down the same one hill until you've racked up a bunch of miles, but a ride through rolling terrain? That sounds much more pleasant!

Repeated hills isn't quite the same thing as hill repeats - far more enjoyable for a start!! :)

I will be heading for the Surrey Hills A.O.N.B. this weekend as:
A> I've got an Audax event coming up with some big climbs in a fortnight.
    B> I'm rubbish at hills. :(

Andyhartleyuk - where did you do your C2C ride? That sounds like a fun adventure.
