Swollen Gluteus Medius muscle

I DO believe that I've irritated my gluteus medius muscle with kettlebell deadlifts. I'm weaker on my left leg as far as balance and do a LOT of swerving and wavering to maintain my balance on the single leg deadlifts. I felt the tightness in my right hip last week and started doing about 30 minutes of stretching each night to try to loosen those muscles. However, yesterday I noticed that the muscle was slightly swollen. No major pain, but definitely tighter.
The question is this: I do NOT want this to be a problem and want to be able to do those moves. I obviously need to allow this muscle some longer recovery time. Has anyone else experienced this and how did they improve their mobility and strength in that weaker muscle? How long should I wait before doing the deadlifts again? I certainly don't want to injure the muscle, so I'm trying to listen to my body carefully.
