Massive blow

On May 10th, I weighed myself and my scales said I'd lost 7lbs. I was so happy, as it meant I had lost a total of 31lbs this year. Yesterday, I weighed in and my scales said I had GAINED 12lbs!!!! I couldn't believe it. I can only imagine that the reading on May 10th was very wrong and yesterdays reading was nearer the truth. So in fact, I've only lost 19lbs this year. That took me down a bit, as I've been telling everyone that I've lost over 2 stone this year when in fact, it's only been just under 1.5 stone.

Don't place all your faith in your scale...I'd go further and say to not even use your scale when you have lot to lose, because it's not going to move in a linear fashion and it's going to frustrate you.

Instead, weigh once a week or once a month, record it and move on.

The more important thing is finding a way to eat that keeps you in a calorie deficit and find a way to move your body a bit more today than you did yesterday.

It shouldn't be a "massive blow." That shows you may be giving your scale your power. The power to lose weight has nothing to do with a scale and everything to do with your mindset.

You've lost almost 20 pounds in less than 6 months - that's fantastic! Please don't be discouraged. :)

The scale will drive you crazy if you let it. Have you made some permanent habit changes? Those sorts of changes make me happier.

That has happened to me several times. I thought I lost 5 # this week, and realized I was using my hand to balance on the door jamb.

But 19# is amazing! You should be proud!!

Make sure you are weighing yourself at the same time and under the same conditions each day. (Most people prefer 1st thing in the morning before eating, but after using the toilet, and undressed or underwear only). Otherwise, things like food in your digestive tract, clothing, water, etc can really throw off readings. I've also discovered that, with my scale, its position on the floor could affect its readings :open_mouth:

I weigh almost daily. Most people say that it isn't a good idea, but I think it can be. I know that things are going to change on a day to day basis but I can see a general trend. You can even make a graph of daily weights to see what's really happening. (Someone here did it with a computer program a while ago, it might be excel).

Have you checked the batteries in your scale?

I love Happy Scale. It has kept me from getting discouraged, and focused on the long term picture.

That doesn't make sense. Try putting fresh batteries in your scale.

With my scale I have to stand on it two or three times before it settles. First is about 6 pounds more and after two more it drops down to the correct weight. Should probably replace it eventually. I know it's off since I weigh myself on my works industrial scale in shipping and it's calibrated every month.
