UK peeps, those containers that hold Chow Mein etc we get from Chinese takeaways... any idea the kind of grams are in there, the calories?

For example, a plain chow mein. How many grams in the average plastic container and reckoning of calories? I look it up and all I get is cups, which just aint helpful for me. ;)

    Unanswerable question.

No one container will weigh the same as the other. The only way to tell is by weighing the product it contains.

Calorie wise there are database entries for UK based takeaways, there's also lots of resources on Google. However, they're all best guesses really due to the individuality of the cooking.

I make stir fries and pack them in to those containers for lunches. The calories range from 250ish to 1000. Depending on if I oil fry, water saute etc.

You really can't answer this question.

Weigh it full, then weigh the empty container. Subtract weight of empty container from your full weight. There you have it, the weight of the chow mien.

I usually put it down as 1000ish for the container - noodles + fat +sugar+ salt . For things like that, where you don't know how it was cooked, I log at around 1-200 calories and ignore it as an over meal.

When I get a Chinese I use the American chinese chain P.F. Chang's nutritional data. The database is chock full of entries.

You're never going to get accuracy with things like this, but as long as you remain consistent with what you're logging and it's part of your overall succcess it's fine.

It's like fish and chips. When I get them I log a random database entry that I found years ago and continued to use. It may or may not be accurate to the actual food in front of me, but it's consistent and has been part of my success.
