Hello. Brand new here. Oxford, UK based.
My backstory - I've never been particularly fit and healthy. Just muddling along. About 6 years ago, maybe more, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but for many years did not pay it enough attention. I'm always been at least a bit, and sometimes a lot overweight. Currently well off my worst which topped out at about 130kg about a decade ago, I am about 100kg now (I'm 5'11").
But I went vegan in January (more for environmental type reasons than just for health) and got a blood sugar shock and an angry GP telling me I had to regular blood testing in March. Now I find the data fascinating, seeing how my "machine" actually works in response to different things.
So at 50 I'm just beginning to take these things seriously before it lands me in bigger trouble than I would want.
For the past month I've been exercising quite regularly. Although I always walked the mile or so into work and back, now I am averaging about five miles a day including usually a morning "ralk" (it's still more walk than run at the moment but improving each time!).
So I also thought it was time to take more interest in the fuel I am using, and am now quite keen on understanding what mix of nutrients and total calories can help me toward my goals - I would probably like to get down to the mid-high 70s kg from just over a 100kg at present, so it's a long job, I realise that, but I can feel differences already in the month or so I've been taking it all more seriously.
I have some questions, about the app, and about carb counting, so I'll have a browse around to see if people have already answered them and if not find an appropriate place to ask them,
Cheers,
Jock
