I was overweight when I was young and yo-yo dieted for 25 years. At age 33, I found a solution in the field of addictions counseling, seeing my impossible habits as an addiction, lost 140 pounds and have maintained my ideal weight for over 30 years. I'll help anyone who asks, and would be happy to respond to replies here if you have a question. I'm not sure why my post disappeared from "My discussions", but I'm making another try so that I am not lost in the crowd.

    It is not an addiction.

Eat fewer calories than you burn, using the Mifflin-St. Jeor equation and the activity level you can live with forever. Never eat more than your living MR and try to have an average consumption over the week of half the living MR, never going below 1000 calories on any given day.

It can be. For some food can be an obsession to the point of addiction. It is all one can think about. When breakfast is done thoughts go right to lunch and dinner. Between meals one thinks about food and trying to not eat until it is time.

Just because you don't feel like it is an addiction for you doesn't mean it isn't for others.

What happens if I go below 1000 a day?

You'll be famished, and if you continued to do that for very long, you'd get sick. I know some people like to fast in the religious traditions, sometimes nothing for days, but I think that's a bad idea. Better to eat and lose modestly.
