Hi there , just starting mfp and wondered if any one has tips on tracking macros

MFP does it all for you, just make sure you're picking accurate entries from the database as they are mostly User Entered and can be completely incorrect or missing macro info. You can tweak the settings if you don't feel satiated by the macro split you're on. Pre-logging your day can help you structure your meals in a way that meets your requirements.
If you're new to calorie counting as a whole, I'd suggest getting used to your calorie goal first before worrying about tracking the macros.

I agree about focusing on the calorie goal for a while until you get the hang of things. Perhaps just track some "normal" days of eating to get an idea of your intake and how it compares to the mfp recommendations. It'll give you an idea about where you may need to reassess portions sizes or food choices.0
