Hey everyone! I'm not necessarily "new" to MFP, but we might as well say that. I tried weight watchers a year and a half ago and lost 30 pounds. But quit because I found it too tedious after 6 months and was tired of scanning everything! I recently fell a little ill and lost a little weight and realized just how much I had gained back and decided to get back on track. I became a vegetarian about 14 years ago, but went vegan in the last year. I'm not very good at knowing how much fat/protien/carbs/etc. I'm intaking (so this app will def. help). But I'm also not quite sure exactly how much I should be having? I just want to drop the weight and be healthy again. The most exercise I get is running around the salon I manage, and tending to my garden. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. (:

I've been vegan for about ten years and a couple of years ago I began calorie counting, lost about 40 pounds, and am now maintaining that weight loss. Here is what I did -- I started with just logging what I was going to eat anyway. I did that for a couple of weeks and I paid attention to how different macro distributions made me feel. I wound up adjusting my goals to reflect more carbohydrates and fat than the defaults because I notice that I feel better when I get more of those. So today I average around 50-60% carbohydrates, 25-30% fat, and the rest protein. This is what works for me -- some people find they feel better with less fat, some people find it's easier to stay in a consistent deficit when they prioritize getting protein throughout the day. If you don't know right now how much of everything you're getting, tracking and seeing what you naturally gravitate towards may be a good way to set your goals. That will let you know if you're currently getting less protein or fat than you need.1
