Weighing food question

I weigh my eggs before cooking them. Should I be weighing them after they are cooked?
Before cooking weight: 226g
After cooking weight: 180g

I have been logging pre-cooked, but weighed them after cooking this morning and saw this huge difference.

Which is correct?

    Before..

    I don't generally weigh eggs, I just go by the avg size on the carton and pick an appropriately sized entry.

    This, I just log how many eggs.

    Thanks for the replies y'all. It's interesting though. I did that previously, but started weighing them (to tighten up my logging), but lately have seen a huge difference in what they actually weigh. 4 large Kroger eggs should be 50g a piece 200g total. Yesterday, they weighed at 237, and this morning 226.

    Maybe the food scale needs a new battery lol.

    Your numbers will be more accurate if you weigh everything before cooking. Cooking removes water but nothing else so the calories will not change. Just make sure you are using the "raw" or "dry" entry in the database. This is especially important for things like meat which can be cooked to different levels of doneness and pasta which can absorb different amounts of water depending on how long you boil it.

    As far as eggs go, store bought ones in the carton are reasonably consistent so I just use the USDA entry for a large egg. If you get yours in bulk or from a farmer or your backyard chickens, you should weigh them.

    The weight of an egg is determined by the average weight of a dozen eggs so each individual egg can be higher or lower. If you eat a lot of eggs, this should balance out. Also, you are weighing without the shell, correct?

    Thanks for the knowledge! Yes, weighing after cracked into a bowl. Bowl on scale, turn scale on so it's at zero. Then the eggs go in. Usually 4, either large or extra large. Last few days have been all large though, so should be at 200g.

    ETA: I don't MIND the extra grams, but just want to make sure I'm accurate.

    I weigh mine before. I buy a brand of eggs marked "large", but the eggs are visibly much larger than the store brand large eggs. The carton will barely close over the eggs sometimes so I knew they had to be larger than the standard 50 grams. Sometimes, I can find "medium" in that brand. The medium are more of a standard large size and I probably won't weigh them since I think they'll average out around 50 grams each or close to it.
