When is the "confetti moment"?

I haven't hit my goal of 132 lbs. yet, but I'm within a couple pounds. So, at risk of overthinking this in the age of digital scales, I'm just wondering when I should say I DID IT... is it when the scale hits 132.9? Or does it need to be 132.0? How did you folks decide (or plan to decide) which criterion to use to determine when you reached your goal?

Consider that your weight is in constant flux - it's not a point, but a range. I have set my personal goal weight to 55-58 kilos, which is a range of about 7 pounds.
Oh, and when you hit goal weight, that's when the real work starts. And it continues for the rest of your life.13 -
I've set my 'I MADE IT!' moment with .9 (kg not pounds), cause with or without those 900grams, the kilograms number will be reached !2

I think I've reached my goal if it's .0 or under.
But the next day you might be up a few...so I don't really throw confetti until that weight seems to be steady for a while( +-1-2 lbs)2 -
If your goal is 132 then when it shows 132.0 on the scales you have achieved your goal.
If you goal is to be under 132 then you haven't achieved the goal until 131.9
I just saw it as the start of a new phase rather than throw confetti and think the job is done. Ticked that goal off the list, smiled and moved on.
If you are very goal oriented and get great satisfaction from hitting those goals (I definitely am....) then suggest creating some new, non-weight related goals for yourself.5 -

You're so close to your goal! That's great!
Hmm. Maybe it's just me, but I don't ever want to throw confetti and say that I've made it or that I'm done. I'm too scared to get complacent. I see people gain weight back too often.
However, I could have thrown a party for little things like when I lost my love handles, fitting into a bikini comfortably or when my the back of legs became totally smooth and the cellulite was no longer visible.
Between those NSV's and reaching my fitness goals both keep me focused with maintaining my weight. But I've never had a true confetti moment with my scale weight.7 -

Thanks.Perhaps I will next May when I reach year 5 of maintenance.

I weigh myself daily and track my weight in an Excel spreadsheet, and it has a column that calculates a 7-day moving average to smooth out daily fluctuations. I understand that apps like Happy Scale work on the same principle. Anyway, I consider a goal met when that average hits my goal.
And as others have said, don't think of it as reaching the end, think of it as the start of Phase II. Otherwise, that's how yo-yo'ing gets started - you think you're done and end up slipping back into the very same habits that put on the weight in the first place.5 -

Wow, this is The Answer for me! I use and love Happy Scale - I will throw the confetti as soon as my moving average hits 132-point-anything. Right now it's 134.8, so it may only be a matter of a few days or weeks.
Thank you, jetjaguar, and everyone else who responded! This discussion thread has been incredibly helpful.
And I do get the whole Maintenance thing. I'm lucky that 1) my daily weight-loss calories are 2,200, and 2) I love my diet and my chosen exercise of weightlifting, and I have no desire to change anything significantly regardless of where I'm at with my goal weight.5 -
Confetti is the 1 year anniversary of maintaining within 10 lb of your goal. Not a single day above goal + 10 lb is allowed.

Your weight is constantly going to change. You can throw confetti when you hit 132, but you might weigh 134 the next day.3

Whenever you like what you see, I guess. Weight will fluctuate a few pounds. Don't forget that you can't stop paying attention to calories or else it will come right back on (quickly). (An extra 250 cal/day can go quick if you don't continue to pay attention and count).
I'm close to goal weight (and somewhat happy with my appearance--'squishiness' mostly contained to rear & thighs), and I generally just care about eating under maintenance now anyway, rather than being under my 0.5 lb/wk goal net calories). Weight training is giving some very definite improvement in addition to the weight loss, and I'll potentially be happy at the current weight with more muscle.1 -
for me it would be 5 years maintaining. However right now you made it! There isn't end point of weight loss, once you lose it you need to find way to keep it off.

Heck, no one told me I'd get confetti at 5 yr maintenance. If they had I would have thrown the party 2 years ago.
I waited until I was stable ( within 1-2 lbs of my goal) for a couple of months before declaring maintenance.
Once there I derived a great amount of satisfaction from watching the scale stay within the 5 lbs range I gave myself.
Cheers, h.4 -
Throwing confetti your way now! You are a success - stay strong!5

Nice job. When MFP gives you confetti make sure to get a screen shot to use as a constant reminder in maintenance.6

I had a 5 pound weight 'zone' that I counted as success. I knew I'd fluctuate within that range. So I celebrated when I hit the top of that zone. Celebrated again when I hit the bottom. And am happy every single day I step on the scale and I'm still there. It's been five years.2

I never through any confetti...it's not the finish line...it's actually just the beginning of the real race.
Body weight isn't static though...you're not going to weigh 132 all the time...maintenance is a range as weight can fluctuate quite a bit day to day.4 -
Hmm, good question. I think I had many confetti moments, most having to do with the mirror a few with something fitness related. I wasn't very hung up on weight and really had only a vague idea of what weight I wanted to be, so I never had a scale confetti moment.4
-
I never had the "confetti"moment because in my mind that would involve cake, ice cream, brownies, etc lol But i did have that "oh i can maintain now" moment which was pretty nice.1
-
For me, it was when I was at my target weight or slightly below by a fraction of a lb. for 2 days running. But do what you like. You are the boss of your weight loss.2
-
Serious question- does MFP actually give you confetti? I'm going to pretend to hit a goal just so I can see it.1
-
no confetti- because you never "arrive"
order is not achieved- but maintained. same with weight.0 -
I use a weight trend app (Libra, on android). I consider a weight achieved when my trend weight is at or below that for a 3 consecutive days. It's kinda arbitrary, but whatever.0
