To gain muscle you need to be in a calorie surplus. The size of the surplus will determine how much fat you gain along with the muscle. Small surplus - small amount of fat, large surplus, large amount of fat.

If you want to look more defined, you'd need to lose fat. Which requires being in a deficit.

like the above said, u need to cut fat while preserving muscle mass.

    1. set up MFP to lose .5lbs/week
    2. manually set protein intake goal to .8 to 1g per pound of CW
    3. continue to lift until u like what u see in the mirror (now u lift to preserve n not to gain muscle)
    4. once goal is achieved, adjust MFP to maintenance or to gain depending on ur next goal

    GOOD LUCK!

any meal that puts you in a 250-300 calorie surplus would be a lean bulk meal for me

Lean muscle doesn't exist. You want to gain? Eat, train, & rest.

Personally I'd cut first before bulking
