I'm still trying to find my slow bulk level and I'm currently averaging over 2700 between workout and non-workout days. Didn't gain a pound at 2500 or 2600. This is all new to me so I'm still feeling my way around in the dark. Guess I don't make the 2800 club though :'(

    Is that even necessary?

I wish I could eat 2000 let alone

Is it necessary? Not for everyone, no.

Well, yeah...for some people it is. My maintenance is between 2800-3000 calories per day depending on the season and what I'm doing, so it's pretty necessary in order for me to maintain my weight.

This. I slipped into an accidental deficit eating 3150/day, and I'm only 5'10", 170.5 lbs. I can't imagine how absurd it's going to eventually be if I keep running bulk/cut cycles, and maintain a similar activity level.

I'm close to that.. in the 2600-2700ish range right now. I'd say by next year when I have a bit more muscle built I'll be in the 2800ish maintaining club. Right now it just depends on how much exercise I get done in a week, sometimes 2600 isn't enough. Trying to drop another 5% body fat this summer so will be going down to 2500ish and pushing harder starting tomorrow (June 1).

Seeing as how people are different, yes it's necessary for some.

I could lose on 2800 if I have an active day.

I maintain somewhere between 3300-3500 but am currently in a large deficit so nowhere near your arbitrary number.

I'm 6 foot, 218lb and nearly down to
10%bf, bulking for me can be well over 5000cals and some days over 6000cals sounds fun at first but can get monotonous very quickly.

Cutting starts off great at 3500+ cals
But at 3000 cals I start clock watching for my next meal and need to introduce
    Refeed days
