Why does logging an excercise session erase my progress from walking? I will have a few thoussnd steps and several extra calories to use, and then I log a yoga session or rowing time and suddenly I have way fewer extra calories to use. I don't get it. I'm not planning on using them to binge eat, but seriously sucks to work out and lose progress!

I've had this issue too and I suspect it is related to my fitness tracker. If you have one disable allow negative adjustments in MFP and that might fix it. I'm not positive tho so anyone with more experience please chime in.

If you're receiving calories from both the workout and the steps that happened at the same time then you're getting double calories for one activity. MFP adjusts out the double dipping and only gives you credit for one thing at a time - otherwise you're eating back twice the amount of calories you should.

Oh. Well that's annoying. Is there a way to tell it to stop doing that? I don't have my device on me when I manually record exercises, that's why I do it manually.

If you are not using your device to record the yoga then it shouldn't be overwriting, try changing the time on your manual exercises to a later time.
