Recovering From a Bad Day

Yesterday was not a good day for me. There were multiple sources of stress, but I had been trying to stick to my plans. Everything changed while I was out and ended up having to hurry to my stepmother who needed to go to the hospital. I ended up just having to grab what i could along the way, and I didn't get home to 4 a.m.

I am so tired right now. I know it's best to stay awake, but it's hard to keep my eyes open. Of course, I'm all bloated and puffy from yesterday. I know the best thing to do is to get right back on schedule, but I'm having the worst time of it. I don't even feel like eating, because I'm just so exhausted.

So, what do you do after a bad day? What gets you back on track?

BTW, my stepmother is home and doing okay.

Glad to hear your stepmother is okay :)

Just get back on track. Log everything you ate yesterday, and start over today. One day will not do long term damage. If I have a day where I don't log or over do it, I just tell myself "today is a new day" and stick with it.

I actually take a nap for an hour after a long day like that!

Why do you think it's best to stay awake? Sleep is pretty important to health. There will always be bad days...you just get back to things the next day...you don't have to "recover"...you just go back to doing what you were doing.

Honestly, I fell asleep. I was trying to stay awake because I didn't want to throw off my sleep schedule. I ended up having a bunch of odd dreams, so I guess I needed it.

Of course you did. Who wouldn't need sleep after such a long and stressful day. Lack of sleep can also mess with your hormones and make you feel hungrier than you normally would, and it can increase stress levels. Always try to get enough sleep.

Logging helps me get back on track. Then a post saying recommit. Saying it often makes it happen

Thanks everyone. Honestly, it was another rough day as I ended up having to drive back out there for my Dad. I didn't go over calorie wise either day, but I still just feel rotten. I just want to wake up and have some energy.

Are you drinking plenty of water (or equivalent)? Sometimes it's easy to overlook that on non-routine, stressful days, and become slightly dehydrated. Being dehydrated can increase feeling draggy and tired. (I'm not talking about drinking crazy much - just a normal, healthy amount).
