Should I watch my sugar?

I eat mostly vegan so my carb intake is about 70%. I don't eat any processed foods or added sugar however I have started to reach for a lot more fruit. Today for example the sugar from fruit was about 100g. I know that it won't make me put on weight because my overall calorie intake is under control, however I am wondering whether that amount of sugar/ carbs could cause it to turn to fat? Before anyone says that if it hasn't hurt me so far it shouldn't now, I'd like to add that recently I lost a lot of fat and look lean and am now wondering whether I could suddenly gain some of that fat back? To reiterate, when I was losing the fat I wasn't eating quite so much fruit as I am now so I really have no comparison!!

I mean I see a lot of vegans on social media who eat mostly fruit (not saying that's good!) but are very very lean so Im wondering if that's just how their body works plus exercise or whether it doesn't actually affect most people the way we are made to believe...

If you are in a calorie deficit the sugar and carbs won't magically turn to fat. Watch sugar if you have a medical reason to. Other than that calories are what's important.

the only thing that will cause fat gain is excess calories, not excess sugar.

Another vote not to fear fruit...but 70% carbs doesn't leave a whole lot for fat & protein. I'm assuming your overall calories aren't that high, so can't be getting much of either of thise. you would be wise to try and get a little more fat & protein in you intake.

No, it won't. There are other health reasons to get adequate protein and fat (not saying you are not, just that macros matter some), and if you are trying to build/preserve muscle you'd want to focus on protein levels, but eating more fruit within your carb amount or 70% carbs in general would have no ill effects absent being too low in something else.

You don't just start gaining fat with calories under control. To the extent people claim that, they are mistaken.

There is no net storage of fat while in a caloric deficit, regardless of the macro composition of your diet.

There's way too much woo and fearmongering these days over carbs/sugar.

Fruit is the one thing that pushes me over my sugar goals. It hasn't effected my weight loss at all.
