Just got my kitchen scale. ROFL!! I was SO off!

No wonder I wasn't losing anything! I measured out morning smoothie, exactly as I'd been estimating (using a measuring cup). It came to about HALF of what I have been making!

I only started tracking on MFP because I was an injured long distance runner and felt like I could stand to lose 10 pounds or so. I shouldn't need a food scale for my situation, right? Wrong! After the first few pounds dropped away, it truly came down to weighing what I was eating in order to get to a lean and healthy weight for me. I ended up losing a total of ~25 pounds and have been maintaining for 1-1/2 years. The scale purchase was well worth it!
Congrats on your "awakening"!!6 -
When i go back and look at the first few months of my food logging when i first started here (before i got a food scale), i just shake me head. Aye aye aye.. It was so not accurate6

I've used my scale from day 1 of logging and I find I'm surprised at how much more I can eat based on weight than I thought I could. I'd break off a chunk of butter to put on my sweet potatoes and think it was a full tbsp only to find out it weighs 10 or 11 grams and I get to add even more!!!6

Yeah it is eye opening. I was kicking myself for not accurately 100% using mine even though I owned it for a few years. The good news? I lost 6 pounds the first month using it!4

Exactly!!! I found I was underestimating carbs and fats(rice, pasta, cheese) and over estimating my proteins.
The scale weight is what it is and takes everything else out of the equation.
I like that.1 -

Yes! And then you can start to to learn what an ounce of chicken or peanut butter (or whatever) looks and feels like. Makes you more aware.1 -
I remember when I started weighing and measuring. Blew my mind to see how much I was actually eating...1

I tend to be like that, too...I can eat a lot more when I weigh things out. It's nice.2 -
For real... when I started properly measuring my "two tablespoons" of peanut butter and learned it was more like 4.5 tablespoons I almost had a heart attack.5

Yay! Another convert!1

I have a food scale at home, and one at work. And when I recently had a friend who got serious about calorie counting, I got her a food scale as a gift. Very useful...1

It gave me the confidence to start eating pasta. Before hand I would never risk it.1

This is my experience as well. I still don't eat the entire quantity, I'm just adding fewer calories to my daily total.0
