Going on vacation

Ok. I'm 20 lbs into this thing and on a roll, then comes vacation. We are headed to Maui for 2 weeks and I'm very nervous. We are staying in a condo, so I'll be cooking some, but I know that we'll be eating out quite a bit as well. I am packing my food scale, even though my husband thinks I'm crazy. What do you do to stay on track when away from home?

Let myself enjoy eating! Glad you can cook while on vacation, that's a plus. Don't deprive yourself and enjoy the foods you might not eat normally. But don't get upset and beat yourself up if you go over your calories, etc. Do the best you can. Remember to move, even if it's a walk. Enjoy your vacation!!

Just enjoy the vacation. Keep up with your gym routine or walk. The other thing is you will probably burn more calories than you normally would walking around and being active while on vacation. As long as you are not binge eating it will have very little impact on you. The last thing you want is to not try something or eat something you normally would not have because you are afraid to put on weight.

I'm currently on vacation, so I can't tell you the outcome of this trip yet, but I have lost weight on my last three vacations. I don't count calories while away, but you certainly can. I do move a lot more. FitBit is telling me I'm about 3 times as active as when I'm at home. I try to make better food choices, but don't fret too much about it. I did notice that I held onto about 15 lbs of fluid with the flights during my last trip. It was great to see it drop off through the first week home. Go, enjoy your vacation, and do your best.

While away on holiday I will focus on maintenance. That allows me some extra space while still feeling OK about it all. I walk a lot (in fact in some cases they are hiking holidays). Eating out is as always focus on soups, salads (dressing on the side) and grilled fish.

Enjoy yourself and worry about it later! You can't miss out on Banyan treats ice cream in Lahaina and the amazing Paia fish restaurant!!
