Calorie intake

Hey guys!

Can anyone give me an accurate equation to calculate how many calories my body naturally burns a day?

Also, how can I correctly calculate how many extra calories I need to burn a day to lose one Kilogramm a week?

Thanks in advance! :)

Is there something wrong that you can't access MFP's tools for doing this? Fill out your fitness profile with your current stats, tell it the weight loss rate you'd like to aim for, and it will tell you how many calories to eat to meet that goal.

... and... unless you are morbidly obese or have a TDEE (the calories you burn in a day) that is around 5500 (hint: you don't), the 1100 Cal a day deficit you would need to lose a kg a week is.... excessive.

Try aiming for a deficit = to 15-20% of your TDEE (maybe up to 25% if you're morbidly obese).

Since your logging and estimates may be off, assess your progress over a 4-6 week period using a trending weight app or web site to estimate your weight level change and adjust based on your actual results over time....

@irisgrey47 This post above is referring to a different way to calculate that is NOT the way this site works. This is just going to confuse you.

I agree with @ccsernica - go to MY HOME > Goals >View guided setup and set your goals. It will give you a calorie goal. Log your food, log your exercise and see how you do.

@cmriverside , I absolutely agree with you as to the link to the guided set-up which should be the starting point when using MFP.

However, I absolutely disagree with not tackling the 1kg per week potential issue.

I will just say that in the MAJORITY of cases of people setting up their goals on MFP, a 1lb/500g weekly weight loss goal is a much more reasonable goal than a 2lb/1kg goal.

@PAV8888 - she doesn't state her weight or BMI, so there is no way to know. If she has a lot of weight to lose (like 20kg,) she could get away with the 1kg per week loss for now. Otherwise if she has less to lose, 0.5 kg per week is more appropriate.

    Agreed.
