Food is made up of micro and macronutrients. The macronutrients are carbohydrates at 4 calories per gram, protein at 4 calories per gram, and fat at 9 calories per gram. That's the basic gist. The google machine well help you figure out what each macro is important for.0

Macronutrients are nutrients you need or can use in "macro" (large) amounts, generally measured in grams (carbs and carb subcategories fiber and sugar; fat; protein; and you could include alcohol).
Micronutrients are nutrients you need or can use in "micro" (small) amounts, generally measured in micrograms or milligrams (vitamins and minerals).0
