I've been using MFP for 15 weeks to lose weight and been doing well (lost 50 lbs so far). I'm planning to start exercising by doing some bodyweight stuff (push ups, sit ups, triceps dips, etc) 2 sets of 20 reps for each. My question is should I be doing this daily or every other day? If I exercise in the morning is the remainder of the day enough time for recovery?

Some body weight stuff can(and should be) done daily(if it's your only strength training).

up to 100 pushups and situps daily in sets are no big deal.

Other stuff like tricep dips and pullups should be lower rep counts if done daily.

Walking... 2-5 miles even running 2-5 miles if you're acclimated isn't a big deal..

    Congrats on the weight loss!

If you're just new coming back to exercise I would probably go with every other day, at least to start with (or break up your routine that you're not hitting the same major muscle groups every day) and as your fitness improves increase frequency, time etc etc...

We are frequently victims of our own enthusiasm. While you're unlikely to seriously injure yourself with body weight exercises it is normal to experience some soreness when you first start out and pain can lead to discouragement and ultimately giving up your program.

One of the reasons I joined the triathlon club that I belong to is that the head coach's philosophy was that each work out should leave you wanting more.

Thanks for the advice so far. I recently read on one of the blogs that you shouldn't go too hard and build in recovery time so that your body and your ability to lose weight actually benefit from the exercise. The only problem was it didn't mention how hard was too hard or how much recovery time you might need for varying amounts of exercise. I know my modest amount of exercise is probably not going to rupture anything but being new to this I've got no idea.
