To what extent (if any) can you modify your body shape?

The title says it all. I'm a pear shape so I carry fat (and muscle) more on my lower body (butt, thighs). I'm getting my body fat down which will basically leave me with nothing on the upper half of my body (small waist, no boobs, ). Obviously, such a huge part of this comes down to genetics but is there any way to build a more "balanced" physique?

Not really unless you're willing to go under the knife. But the pear shape is a good shape to have. I am pear shaped too.

Yes! Weight training can build up your lats and back can give you a more balanced "hourglass" shape, and your pecs can kind of push your bust up and out a bit. Can't help you on the no boobs, though. The one thing I don't like about being lean.

obviously you can't change how fat is distributed on your body, but you can target muscle size on certain areas you want to increase or decrease. However being female, we don't put on much muscle mass, but sometimes a slight change is all we need to feel more balanced, And with strength training you will change how your bones are held together and get some posture change which can be dramatic.

To some degree, yes you can change it with bodybuilding... building muscle in certain areas to balance it out. For example building your upper body especially lats to give the body more balance and hourglass shape. Also building the lower body can help too so that when you cut down it is more defined and shapely.

Keep in mind this can take years and years of hard work and dedication and obviously it won't be a radical difference.. but it can help

I tend to carry weight on my lower body, and when I lost weight the first time I got really low everywhere and looked very lean with not much shape. After a few bulk cycles I have a nice balanced physique I am happy with (I love having a larger muscular lower body so that is what I focused on).

    Pretty much this

My boobs disappear pretty quick. But building up your shoulders, back and chest can help balance your physique and add some "curves". I've grown to really like the super hero look of broad shoulders, tiny waist and monster thighs. I find carrying most of my weight in my lower half actually helps me to attain this look.

Work those shoulders. Work those lats. Keep at the legs. You will like the way you look, I'm willing to bet.
