Advice for beginners?

I have always wanted to build muscle and maybe even enter a bikin competition one day. I have watched a lot of videos and read every blog/article out there about building muscle. One of my problems is that I perfer to workout at home instead of the gym. Also figuring out the types of workouts to start with and the calorie intake. What advice would you give a beginner like myself about body building? Fyi....we are a military family living in Japan so a personal trainer is hard to come by.

Do you have access to barbells, a bench, and a squat/power rack?
If you want to gain muscle you need a calorie surplus + macro/micro adherence + structured lifting program with progressive overload...1
