For all of you who are beginners in yoga and feel overwhelmed with it's complexity and so many poses (or maybe you are at advanced level but have some poses that you'd like to master) here is a simple challenge:

- Pick (only) 3 yoga poses that you want to learn/master.
- Daily do those 3 poses focusing on correct alignment.
- Log at this thread that you did it for a day :)

If there would be interest I would add new rounds with new 3 poses after two weeks.
I thought it could be a nice way to seamlessly create a yoga routine.

I'll start with my three poses:

    - A tree pose
    - A downward facing dog pose
    - A cow face pose

I've chosen those three because I think my posture could benefit from it.

I'll do it as well. My three poses are 1) half moon, 2) crow and 3) grasshopper

    Week 1 Day 1 - Done

Hi girls, it's so nice to have company! :)

I did it this morning after waking up, my first morning yoga ever :D It was a nice start of a day.
I am positively surprised with a tree pose, I was feeling my glutes pretty hard trying to balancing in that pose.

    This sounds great!

I did Body Balance this morning, so that was a fair bit of yoga, then I practiced a couple of things afterwards.

Grasshopper pose looks like something I'd like to try!

I'm working on my handstands, too.

My third pose I just discovered will be Eka Pada Koundinyasana I which is a bit like grasshopper.

Day 1 done sort of. Succeeded at crow. Wobbly on half moon but did it. Couldn't quite hold grasshopper...every time I try and straighten the one leg, I keel over. But that's the object of the challenge isn't it? To learn a new pose.

    Exactly!
Downward dog is much easier pose than grasshopper, and yet my downward dog today is probably far away of correct, but this is first day :) I am looking forward to see how much progress can be done in two weeks :)

Can't do Day 2, suffering from sciatica really badly today. I can't get out of bed. I should be ok tomorrow. I hope that's ok for the challenge...to allow for off days?

Okay, I definitely want in on this. I will pick my 3 poses and begin week 1 tomorrow! I will post my 3 chosen poses tonight, once I select them. Thanks. This will help my use the yoga fan of poses that I received for Christmas.

Day 3 done. It was a bit touch and go as my hay fever was acting up...so I had tissues scattered around me. But did the poses.

I've noticed that my left side is much weaker and much stiffer then my right side. I can do cow face with right arm up with no problem, but with left arm I am not even close.
Same thing with tree pose, on the right I have full motion of leg to the side, but on the left I have at most 70%.
What do you think should I practice more on the left side to "catch up" with the right?

Most people are more flexible on one side vs the other. My right side is stronger and more flexible than my left. I asked a yoga teacher same question and she said to just keep practicing with both sides per normal. The two sides will progress independently and she said eventually they'll both be at advanced barring any inflexibility caused by old injuries/other issues. She said you can just do one side until it catches up but if you do that, the better side can slide backwards from lack of progress and there is no need to be symmetrical in yoga.

Day 4. Done bright and early today. Still struggling to straigten that leg on grasshopper but determined to get there. On plus side my crow was kicking today.

Chaturanga, Cobra and Downward Dog day 1 is complete. Chaturanga may take a bit to actually do correctly. Lol

Grasshopper might take a while longer.

Managed to hold a handstand long enough to take a screen cap:78DE9E07-5D7B-4D1E-A714-864ECAA1E221_zps9seigguq.jpg

At the moment I am struggling with a pinched C7 nerve that really annoys me. I don't see any contraindications with downward dog nor tree, but I do struggle with cow face pose, although I think it could be beneficial in the long run.

    Anyway, great job people!

Thank you for explaining me this! I feel more comfortable now when I know it's a normal thing that other people experience too.

Week 1, day 2 complete. Cobra and Downward Facing Dog were good, Chaturanga is not as easy as it looked. Sore muscles.
