So before alot of you tell me that this is a question for my doctor, my doctor never gave me instructions or told me anything about doing any physical activity which is why I'm asking for general advice here. But to start off, I recently was discharged from the hospital due to having severe anemia ( my number was at 3!) So I stayed overnight for a couple of days to get that back up. But I also had/have a blood clot in my leg that I have to take a shot once a day for. The problem is I don't know whether or not If running would affect my blood clot or not. My legs/whole body are actually extremely swollen at the moment due to water so I wouldn't go at full intensity but I don't know whether it would be a good idea to run with the blood clot in my leg. If anyone has experienced this please share your story I would love to hear what others have to say. Thank you

It's likely to be too painful. My husband threw a clot while backpacking several years ago. Every step was painful. There is no way he could run. He could barely walk. We got off the trail and went to a doctor who told him to rest. He took a lot of Advil and used heat on his leg and was able to go back to hiking in a week, but did minimal activity during that week. He was fine once the clot dissolved and we were able to continue our long hike, but we were glad he hadn't continued. There is a risk of the clot moving to heart or brain, so I wouldn't try to run without having the okay of my doctor.
Also, if you are that seriously anemic, it will be a while until you get your energy back. I had issues with anemia and running was awful until I got my iron levels back up.2 -
No don't. Your doctor didn't give advice likely because it was assumed you would be practically immobile.3

If your doctor didn't give you instructions call them. Surely they gave you discharge papers that encouraged you to call if you had questions.7

Do not run.3

Y please do not try to get advice on this website or from dr. Google. You need to specifically explain to your doctor what he wants to do and if he can't give you an answer ask him to refer you to a specialist who deals with blood clots. To put things in perspective I had a double hip replacement 2 years ago and based on the lab results in the hospital I had a minor blood clot form nothing serious or dramatic I stayed on blood thinners. The doctor Who treated me for the blood clot worked in the rehab facility I stayed in he referred me to Prime my primary physician. My primary physician said he didn't know my history and he referred me to an arterial specialist who gave me the okay as far as my blood clot. This is something you have to spend some extra time and leg work you don't want to mess around with an issue like a blood0

Don't run. You could throw the clot to the lungs which could be deadly. It takes time for it to reabsorb so wait until you get clearance from your doctor before resuming activities like running. Did they place an IVC filter?1

My aunt was barely allowed to walk to/from the bathroom while she was being treated for a dvt. Please follow up with your doctor for more specific instructions regarding what you should and should not be doing!2

Call up your doctor and ask. Just because your doctor didn't give you instructions regarding a question you never raised to the doctor doesn't mean that it's not a question for your doctor. Be an advocate for yourself and your health, which includes engaging in any necessary follow up.1

That doesn't mean it's not a question for your doctor. It just means your doctor failed to mention this one way or another. Call him up and ask. This is very clearly a medical question.4 -

Why can't you call and ask? Honestly, no one here wants to tell you anything that could put you in an ER or worse.

that is definitely a question for a medical professional, not the tinterwebz0 -
Please don't run until your doctor specifically clears you to do so. I've had relatives who died of blood clots. You don't want to take any chances.0

Yes, it's dangerous. Talk to your doctor.0
