Hi! On July 6 it will be a year for me with weight watchers & so far I only lost 20 pounds give & take. ( I gained last week). Although I like the community support the point system can be discouraging plus I have to pay for it. I want to try MFP especially since it has all that WW has except the point system & the best part... it's free! .

Welcome.
Way back, my misses lost 60 lbs on WW.
Anyways.... MFP is free, sort of. Since joining MFP I've purchased a food scale, apple watch (I use it as a HRM tracker), and a treadmill.2 -
That's amazing, congratulations! Yes, I purchased that while on WW. I have a Garmin watch because I'm a runner. Thank You!0

Yeah my husband wanted to try WW, but I insisted on this first. He thought the meetings and *kitten* food would help. I refused to pay a ridiculous amount of money for overpriced frozen food tbat we would never actually eat.1 -
WW worked for me when I started it in the late 80s and they were still doing exchanges, not points. Their earlier points programs also helped me take off a lot of weight. From everything I've heard about the current program, it wouldn't be a good fit for me anymore. Then again, I haven't tried it; I'm not currently employed and it's an expense I don't need right now.
Actually, I came to MFP when my doctor told me I had to lose weight and pointed out that it was possible without WW. In my mind—and my apologies to everyone reading this following other healthy, sustainable ways of eating; being on these forums has been an education and I know better now than I did eight months ago—the only ways to lose weight were 1) Weight Watchers 2) willpower 3) stupid crash diets that would mess up your metabolism and ruin your health 4) surgery. Having my doctor tell directly that I could lose weight healthfully without going the WW route was an epiphany. I found MFP looking for an online calorie counting list (I'd bought several of those books in the past and figured that in the 21st century, there was probably an electronic version). Googling 'online calorie counter' gave me MFP on the first page of hits and I haven't looked back.
MFP is a great tool and it really works. Welcome.3 -
Welcome to MFP!1

I've had much better luck with MFP than with WW.1

I just re-did 3 months with WW after losing weight on it before. The new program is fun & very supportive (Connect, rewards, etc). You get what you pay for. Here is cool too. If you did well there, you'll succeed here also. Welcome!1

Welcome! By logging my foods everyday on MFP, I have lost 24 lbs since February and still losing. It is very eye-opening. Good luck!!1

I thought about going back to WW but I just hate how much they charge. I found AVATAR NUTRITION online for 10.00 a month and it assigns my macro's based upon my needs (fat loss, reverse dieting etc) I track those macro's on MFP and with a good weight lifting program and so far it has been successful weight loss.1 -
I tried WW twice about ten years ago. Both times it worked well for me for a bout a month, until the novelty wore off. I think it's a bit of a lucky game and largely depends on who you are and what the group in your area is like. The groups I went to were full of full time moms who - back then - were a lot older than me. That was great in the beginning, meeting new people, etc. But after a while it was just obvious that our daily schedules didn't have much in common and we couldn't give each other much good advice on handling the little struggles.
As for the food diary / counting system, I don't see much of a difference. If anything, I found WW more difficult because I'd always have to have the calculator on hand while out shopping and through that, I never really thought about nutrition, healthy food, etc.
Wishing you good look with your MFP journey.1 -
