Nervous about a trip home...

So my husband, daughter and I moved out of Utah in April and I seem to fall off track every time we visit my parents and see my (large) family. We're heading down there tonight for the weekend and I'm really nervous about overeating while I'm there.
Any suggestions?
I plan to eat within my calories and take walks if I can, but any suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks!

There really aren't suggestions to give you. Eat within your calories, exercise if you want to eat more, be strong enough to say no if you don't want something. Enjoy the time with your family. You can very easily stay on track, just have to make the effort. You got this!0

You're right, and I've worked so hard! I just need to stick to it...0

I would explain to your family before you get there that you are trying to eat healthily and ask for their support in not overfeeding you. If they love you, they will support you. After that its down to you. Eat small portions and walk.
Dont forget your water and keep positive. I know its hard with home cooking, but as long as you accept little of everything and load up with salads and veggies, you should be fine.0 -
The issue with my family is not home cooking (I wish it was) - it's fast food. They eat out for every meal, so I just need to stick to it and make good choices. I can do this!0

Oh Good luck Amanda! I think planning ahead is key. You can look up menus/calories ahead of time for fast food restaurants- if you know where you're going hopefully you can pick the best option. I know how hard this is, so plan, pack some snacks that are low calorie (like, could you buy some fruit or celery to munch on when nobody is looking?), and put a little token in your pocket- maybe a note about why you are making these choices, or a picture of someone who inspires you. Then you could look at your token if you feel tempted to keep your willpower going strong. And hey, remember, even if you go over your calorie goals that doesn't mean you failed. If you are able to eat better than you normally would have and still go over I would still call that success.
This is a lifelong journey towards health and wellbeing, not about being a pound or two lighter this week.0 -

what I have found very helpful in the past was when I know we are about to sit down to eat, I drink a large glass of cool water before sitting at the table. It certainly helped me not to overeat when away from home. Good luck and just relax and enjoy your family. Have a safe and wonderful visit.0

All great suggestions, thank you! I made the drive down (5hours) without the usual bag of chips and beef jerky, just a diet coke and a huge bottle of water! I plan to keep my water with me so I don't forget to drink, and may slip to the store and pick up some healthy snacks.
Thank you all! I'm feeling much better already, my health comes first!0 -

And this! ^^ LOVE this, I'm doing it!0
