Sugar & Weight Loss?

Hi guys, so I eat a lot of sugar and am over my limit of 75g I think it is a day, quite often, although never over my calorie limit. I've been trying to cut back on sugar but it's hard. Will me eating a ton of sugar slow my weight loss even if I do stay under my calorie limit? TIA!

Speaking purely in terms of weight loss, calories are all that matter.2

And unless you have a medical reason to limit sugar it doesn't matter to weight loss if you go over your sugar allotment for the day provided you remain in a calorie deficit while doing so.1

Remember that MFP doesn't differentiate processed, junk sugars from sugars in fruits, veggies, and dairy. So don't let those "___ goal" warnings scare you. If you find sugars are a factor in your weight, health, or hunger....be cautious and assess your intake. But its probably that you're eating more fresh fruits and veggies that day.0

I just posted this in another thread but it's applicable here regarding foods to remove from your diet:
1. High calorie foods you don't love. That's easy.
2. Do you have trigger foods? Foods that you have to keep eating until it's gone? Cut those out for awhile until you develop new habits then see how you do when you introduce them.
3. Made room for something in your calories that left you hungrier than before you ate it? That may be a food that doesn't work well for you. It might be something that blows your daily allowance and isn't sustainable if you want to lose weight. Limit that.
4. Are you finding foods that make you feel gross, foggy, sick? This should be easy but we don't always treat ourselves the way we deserve. In these cases, I imagine that I am a small child. As an adult, would I give that to my child if I knew it would make them sick? Nope! This works when you start really respecting your body and self. Not always easy for those already struggling with weight loss but it gets easier the more you see yourself as someone of worth.
People say weight loss is strictly CICO. That's techically correct but we aren't robots. We're human beings and some foods make it hard for us to stay within a deficit for a variety of reasons. My best advice is don't be extreme and be kind to yourself. You won't get a medal for never eating a cookie again nor will you reach your goal weight if you decide that you will only have 1200 calories of cookies a day and nothing else. While it would technically be possible to do, no one is going to do that long term. It's all about learning to eat within your daily allowance, feeling good, and allowing mistakes without giving up.5 -
i am a 24/7 caregiver for a quadriplegic husband. My tendencies have been for the last 16 years, to take care of him and not myself. I am now type 2 diabetic. SO, it is now time for me. I could go all day and not eat but then when i would crash i would eat carbs, sugar and not feel well. I found Fitness Pal. I use it to hold myself accountable to EAT. And it works. I cut or limited added sugar, eat meals, and have lost 14 lbs with little or no effort in 6 months. I went for my diabetic checkup yesterday. My A1C is 5.9, I will admit to medication as well, blood pressure 110/60, I will admit to medication as well. I feel better than I have in years. I celebrated with ICE CREAM.1

Yes, eating excessive amounts of sugar will slow your weight loss if it causes you to go over your dietary limit AND may negatively affect your health.
So, it's best to eliminate as much refined and processed sugar from your diet if you can.
