When to rest

I workout Mondays and Tuesdays, rest on Wednesday then work out Thursday and Friday. I take what comes at the weekend. I had 2 good gym sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday (Wednesday) I actually wanted to go again but decided to stick to the plan and rest. I had been feeling fine until yesterday evening when my legs started to ache. Waking up today they are both really sore. I'm due my trip to the gym. It seems like my rest day didn't help at all. Should I have gone instead of resting while feeling able? And should I go on the days I suppose to even if it hurts to walk?

Can you go and train something other than legs? Do upper body to give your legs an extra recovery day? I would do some walking/cycling just to get your legs moving though, I think that would help with the DOMS0

Thank you. I suppose I can but I have a new programme and I'm not confident changing it. I think I will go and see how I get on.
As a general rule should u rest aching muscles or exercise through it if possible?0 -
My PT always told me that after a heavy gym session it's good to have a rest day, but if you've just done a light jog, cycle lighter session you wouldn't need it.1

I don't get DOMS... Don't ask me0 -
If you are following a program, then continue on. Go today, as you warm up the soreness may subside. And over time you should get less sore1

That's just because you never train.2
