Adjusting calories for exercising

Hi, I started about a couple of months ago. I have rheumatoid arthritis and was using Leslie Sansone's videos - love, love, love. Sometimes I was eating the extra calories that MFP suggested and sometimes I wasn't and I was progressing slowly on my weight loss journey. Then I got into a nasty flare up and my doctor told me to stop aerobics - I am just walking about 1 mile a day very slowly. BUT sticking to the 1200 calories and the weight is dropping off! I am now up to 15 pounds off!

What was I doing wrong when I was exercising? I what to know because when my doctor gives me the ok to do aerobics again I want to go back to the videos.
