ARC Trainer?

Sorry for a dumb question, but what is an ARC trainer or training? I keep seeing it on exercise diaries. When I toured my new gym in April, I thought the trainer told me they had it, but am not sure. Any info would be appreciated!

    It's made by Cybex and is a fairly posh elliptical.

    The one in my gym switches the path of the ellipse between horizontal and vertical via a series of clever levers.

    I find it very good - their custom calorie tables seem to have been worked out quite well too.

    I'd rather do HIIT training on this machine than ellipticals. Ellipticals "pause" when you slow down to much, while this one doesn't.
