Researchers at the NIH Clinical Center seek overweight Caucasian men, 18-35 years old to join a research study. Doctors want to learn how the body burns calories when exposed to different temperatures. This is not a weight loss study, however your participation will help scientists learn why some people become obese and other people do not.

Study for Overweight Men
Researchers at the NIH Clinical Center seek overweight Caucasian men, 18-35 years old to join a research study. Doctors want to learn how the body burns calories when exposed to different temperatures. This is not a weight loss study, however your participation will help scientists learn why some people become obese and other people do not.
The study involves:
- physical exam, medical history, blood and urine collection.
- spending 14 days as an inpatient at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
- staying in our Metabolic Unit where the temperature will range from 61 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit for five hours each day.
- monitoring your body temperature, activity, calorie burning, cold/hot sensations and a body imaging study.
- all meals provided by the NIH Clinical Center and compensation for your time and participation.
You may be eligible if:
- you are a Caucasian male, 18-35 years old.
- you are generally healthy.
- your BMI is 30-40.
You may not be eligible if you:
have high blood pressure or taking medications to control your blood pressure
have diabetes, liver disease, a thyroid condition, or heart disease smoke or use tobacco products
